Reasoning abilities is, what I think, makes up the central core of intelligence. What do I mean by that?
Lacking reasoning abilities does not mean that you are stupid. It does NOT mean that you have a low IQ. But it does mean that you not thinking correctly. Thinking correctly is different than IQ.
So here are eight signs that you lack reasoning abilities:
1) You don't think twice before doing an action.
Do you think about the consequences of your actions before doing something? This is one of the most common signs of having weak reasoning abilities. As a recovering special child, this was a consistent and common trait I experienced throughout childhood and into adult years.
2) You rely heavily on memory to solve a problem.
Do you use past experiences to help you on math test instead of thinking it for yourself? Do you frequently use rote memorization when studying for exams? When trying to solve a situation, do you have keep hopes to yourself that you'll remember an information? This habit comes from a distrusting yourself.
3) People complain that you don't listen.
Has anyone ever told you that you don't listen? Has anyone every told you that you lack common sense. Perhaps a co-worker instructed you to do something. Not exercising your reasoning abilities can lead to minor interpersonal conflicts with family members or co-workers. One reason could be because failures in working memory. The more bits of data you can manipulate to form an understanding. The better you understand what the other person needs you to do.
4) You repeatedly retook college classes just to pass the course.
This is pattern of mine in my early years as a computer science major. During my freshman, sophomore, and junior years I retook Calculus 1, Calc 2, and Linear Algebra. After excruciating efforts and failing grades, I decided to switch to a different easier major.
5) You got in trouble for something you didn't mean to do.
Were you a child who in trouble with teachers a lot? One of the most common you weak reasoning abilities is getting in in trouble with classroom peers or co-workers.
6) You get distracted easily.
7) You have trouble applying new information is a different context.
In elementary school, my teachers would consistently send my peers and I to Content Mastery (CM) to get more academic assistance. First, in Kindergarten, my teacher identified my as a child who got distracted easily. Walking to Content Mastery made my feel inferiorly dumb and less than.
8) You second guess yourself frequently.
Are you usually unsure of the decisions that you make? Do you constantly copy what others are doing? Do you worry while making an important decision? Second guessing is common habit of students with learning disabilities.
9) Your a slow learner.
Were you ever the last few students to complete an exam? Have you ever used the Can you repeat what you said? multiple times? In school, have you completed class assignments later than the rest? If so, then this could be a sign that your thinking process is slow than the rest.
10) You are someone who is very tense and stressed out.
Recent studies have shown a correlation between persistent cortisol levels and weak cognitive abilities. In fact it's not uncommon for kids to experience higher levels of stress and eventually acquire learning declines. A rise in cortisol levels causes Pre-frontal cortex neurons to dwindle.
